Just-in-time (JIT) philosophy:
Removing non-value added activities. They minimize inventory costs by ordering based on previous data.
Rock 'n' Joe shows the JIT philosophy by having pre-made bakery samples, freshly brewed coffee and tea on the premises. The pre-made bakery items come delivered frozen. They have ovens in the back to help heat them up.
Pull method:
More products are ordered based off of customer demand.
Rock 'n' Joe shows the pull method by having coffee, tea, and baked goods that is either heated or made to order. Baked goods that attract the most customers are displayed in glass cases. A combination of the coffees, teas, baked goods, and music create an ambiance that customers can enjoy.
Push method:
Caters to customer needs. Make-to-stock.
Rock 'n' Joe shows the push method by brewing coffee and teas in batches every hour. They also get their baked goods delivered every morning before the shift starts.
Jidoka:
Automatically stopping production when problem arises.
Rock 'n' Joe proves that they use Jidoka by stopping the use of old coffee or tea, and start making a fresh batch. They do not want to sell a customer old coffee or tea.
Poka-yoke:
Mistake-proofing. Having a system in place that causes no errors.
Rock 'n' Joe shows Poka-yoke by their baked goods. Instead of baking them on the premises, the baked goods are delivered every morning to ensure the quality and the freshness stays the same.
